This is one of the more widespread Ringlet species as it frequents lower altitudes as well as the high mountains. It is found throughout central and eastern Europe but is much less sporadic in the SE of its range. It is similar to the Bright-eyed Ringlet but possesses brown rather than black antenna tips.
Distribution: C France eastwards to Belarus in the north and N Greece in the south, although only in N Italy. More common in the Balkans, from 300m to around 2300m.
Flight Period: May- early August in 1 brood.
Habitat: Open woodland clearings, lush woodland edges at a variety of altitudes.
Foodplants: Grasses such as bromes (Broma) or fescues (Festuca).
Nectar Sources: Buttercups (Ranunculus), Cow Parsley (Anthriscus sylvestris), clovers (Trifolium), thistles (Cirsium), hawkweeds (Hieracium) .
