The Glandon Blue is a mountain species, rarely being found lower than 1700m and frequently occurring right up to the snow line. The upperside of the male is a dusty grey-blue and that of the female is a dull brown but both possess discoidal spots on the upperside which are often fringed white. These along with the underside are the main identifying features and help separate it from the similar Gavarnie Blue which can occur in the same areas in the Pyrenees. It occurs in small isolated colonies restricted by larval foodplants although both sexes will wander and feed off damp ground. Males are more often found then females.
Distribution: Only found in the Pyrenees and the Alps of France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Italy.
Flight Period: Early July-August in 1 brood.
Habitat: Alpine grassland, streamsides, rocky slopes, short rocky turf above 1700m.
Foodplants: Reportedly uses several plants, including Rock Jasmine (Androsace), saxifrages (Saxifraga aizoides) and Vitaliana.
Nectar Sources: Occasionally visits small mountain flowers; more often found feeding on damp ground.
