This species is similar in appearance to the Green-Underside Blue, with which it may fly in Spain and southern France, however it lacks the strong turquoise coloured suffusion on the underside of the wings. The uppersides of the male are primarily blue fringed by a black margin. The female has a predominantly brown upperside with varying amounts of blue colouration. It is widespread although in my experience it is not a numerous species.

Distribution: Throughout the Iberian Peninsula and southern France, as far east at SW Italy.

Flight Period: Flies in a single generation between early March and late May.

Habitat: Maquis, scrub, dry field margins and woodland clearings, generally between 100m-800m.

Foodplants: Legumes such as Lotus dorycnium, Sulla flexuosa and probably others.

Nectar Sources: Favours French Lavender (Lavandula stoechas), but also legumes and various small composites.
