This narrow peninsula juts out into Donegal Bay and is home to a surprising variety of wildlife. Towards the end of the point there is an area of limestone pavement. Species such as Burnet Rose, Carline Thistle and Bloody Cranesbill grow here alongside the commoner Bird’s-foot Trefoil and Kidney Vetch. Butterflies that occur here include Common Blue, Small Blue, Marsh Fritillary and Wall Brown. The limestone and basalt rocks which surround the headland provide habitat for inshore fish species such as Pollack, Coalfish, Ballan Wrasse and Corkwing Wrasse. This site is also well known as an observation site for incoming migrant birds.
